Covenant House Faith Community
Free room and board.
And the chance to change the world of homeless youth.

What does it take to make a difference in the life of a homeless youth? Beyond food, shelter and clothing, it takes guidance, love and respect. The kind of day to day support that comes from dedicated volunteers willing to commit 3, 6 or 12 months of their life to serving homeless youth through Covenant House Faith Community.
Why would someone drop everything to become a full-time volunteer? For the men and women who make up Covenant House Faith Community, the answer is simple -- they feel called to serve young people in crisis. They want to make a difference in the world, one youth at a time.
Through Covenant House Faith Community, volunteers have the opportunity to serve full time at Covenant House, live in an intentional community with other volunteers, and share in daily communal prayer/reflection.

Mentor Program:
Through its Mentorship Program, Covenant House fosters positive relationships between youth and adults. Mentors offer support, guidance, and experience in order to help youth set attainable goals, map out plans to achieve those goals, and begin to successfully implement them. The Mentor serves as a role model for the youth as he or she moves into independent living and adulthood. For more information, contact the local Covenant House near you.
Covenant House NINELINE
The Covenant House NINELINE (1 800 999-9999) provides telephone crisis intervention to homeless, runaway and other troubled youth and their families nationwide.

Volunteers are needed to keep the NINELINE open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our volunteers help connect youth to their families, arrange transportation home or to a safe shelter and also provide appropriate referrals.

Youth Opportunities: Clothing Drive
Most kids arrive at Covenant House Texas with little more than the clothing on the backs, but much of what is donated to Covenant House is unusable or not age- appropriate for these young people.

Providing Covenant House youth with a few items of gently-worn clothing donated by their peers not only fulfills one of their basic needs, it also boosts their self-esteem. Coordinate a clothing drive with your school, youth group, sports team or a few friends. We need clothing for boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 21, as well as infants and toddlers. (Larger sizes for teens/young adults are especially in demand.) School Days: The first day of school can be exciting but also a bit stressful. When kids arrive at Covenant House they have few belongings. You and your friends can help one of our young residents get ready for the new school year. Sponsors can provide backpacks, a new outfit, binders, pencils, notebook paper, etc. to start the school year off right.

VOLUNTEERING AT COVENANT HOUSE

Like the young people we serve, Covenant House volunteers come from all walks of life. They share a desire to help our youth by offering their skills, talents and experience. They send our youth a powerful message that they are valued members of society. Covenant House volunteers help in many areas from youth services to administrative support or special events. This might include teaching workplace or life skills, facilitating recreational activities or becoming a mentor. Volunteer placements are based on availability, skills and interests, as well as current needs.

"I feel I get much more out of my experience with these young people than I put in," says long- time Covenant House Toronto volunteer Jeff Stapleton.
